A DOT physical is straightforward once you know what to expect, but a few details trip drivers up — especially around blood pressure and paperwork. We have grouped the most common questions below. Every answer reflects how we actually run the exam here in Houston, not a generic script.
How much is a DOT physical in Houston?
A DOT physical at Houston DOT Physicals is a flat $85 cash or $90 by card. That price covers the FMCSA exam, urinalysis and your medical examiner's certificate, with no hidden add-on fees.
How long does a DOT physical take?
Most drivers are in and out in about 30 minutes. You can walk in or call ahead at (713) 623-6306 and we'll get you back on the road quickly.
Do you have truck parking?
Yes. We're at 2525 North Loop West, Suite 408, right off the North Loop 610 exit ramp, with room to park your rig.
What blood pressure do I need to pass the DOT physical?
You need a reading below 140/90 to certify for the standard period. Clinic nerves (the white-coat effect) can raise it, so our examiner re-checks calmly during your visit, so an anxious first reading won't automatically cost you your card.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk-ins are welcome during business hours. You can also book online or call to reserve a time that fits your route.
What do I need to bring to my DOT physical?
Bring a photo ID, your glasses or contacts and hearing aids if you use them, and a list of your medications. If you have conditions such as diabetes, sleep apnea or high blood pressure, bring the relevant paperwork from your treating doctor.
How long is a DOT medical card valid?
A DOT medical examiner's certificate is valid for up to 24 months. It may be issued for a shorter period if you have a condition, such as high blood pressure, that needs monitoring.
Is the DOT physical available in Spanish?
Yes. Our examiner is bilingual and performs the entire exam in English or Spanish. Hablamos Espanol.
Do you report results to the FMCSA registry?
Yes. Results are reported to the FMCSA National Registry the same day, so your medical card is valid and on file.
What is tested during a DOT physical?
The exam covers vision, hearing, blood pressure and pulse, urinalysis, a review of your health history and a hands-on physical examination by a certified medical examiner.
Where in Houston are you located?
We're at 2525 North Loop West, Suite 408, Houston, TX 77008, off the North Loop 610, convenient to I-10 and US-290.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash ($85) and credit cards ($90). Payment is due at the time of your exam.
We make the visit easy
The number one worry we hear is blood pressure. It is a fair concern — but the clinic environment itself can push a first reading up. We give you a moment to settle and re-check during the visit, so a spike from nerves does not automatically cost you your card. If a reading is genuinely high, we explain your options honestly instead of just sending you away.
Everything is done in one visit, by one examiner, in English or Spanish. No runaround, no surprise fees.
